Like many people, I first experienced this story in film form, and was completely captivated by it. In terms of both imagery and plot, The Invention of Hugo Cabret is a masterpiece. It is a work of magic, as well as art. But a few days after having viewed the film, something about it began to bother me. It felt as though some part of the plot had gone unshared. It felt...like something was missing.
And, indeed, it was.
The Invention of Hugo Cabret is spectacular, both in the film and book versions. For a glorious cinematic experience (which, given the content of the tale, should certainly be encouraged) watch the film. But for the *full* story, complete with satisfying ending, please, please read the book!
